I have no idea why, but these black and white birds are really catching my eye today.
Are you guys aware of chimney swifts??
They’re in the same order as hummingbirds and, in some positions, you can see the resemblance
But like… a hummingbird that’s cosplaying as a falcon.
Sleek. Efficient. Aerodynamic. Perfectly optimized.
Also they like to sleep in chimneys, hence the name, and when they perch they become very very flat
They also like to sleep in groups
Anyway 10/10 weird little beast. Love these little flat fuck hummingbird falcons
For all of it’s macabre feeding habits, the Loggerhead shrike’s song is surprisingly sweet. I’ve been admiring this species for quite some time and I was so thrilled to finally chance upon one in the wild!
