this steller’s jay was spotted in california. normally, steller’s jays have a deep blue body, with a black head and neck. this bird has leucism, a genetic mutation that causes a reduction in pigments. it can present in many different ways; some birds have white patches and a ‘pied’ look, while others look faded like this bird. x
