after accidentally on purpose scoundrelposting for like 7 hours straight yesterday i feel like it's vital to remind the class that despite all of their horrors and drama they ARE destined to turn into this thing.

they are 3 inches big. they have goofy little eyes. they prey heavily on moths. their lifespan is 2 years long and they are extremely vulnerable to death by wind turbine. just something to keep in mind here

This is sheer regressionism. Insane how a century of incremental societal development could (and might, if enough individuals are either apathetic, nihilistic, or somehow convinced that radical acceleration with the assumption that they - their platform, their belief system, their idea of how the world should be - will be victorious in the end, no matter how many other people might perish, people that could (and would) otherwise have survived the period of time that would then become the years of strife) be either halted, hindered, or outright (legally) undone as a result of this event.

Also, if your concerns are regarding foreign policy rather than domestic policy, and that the Blue Team is not [insert issue] enough; probably wise to vote for a candidate/polity that (might) not crack down on protests and criticism, rather than a candidate/polity that readily would. Unless you folks want actions like those at Kent State to become the average/usual government response to such events. (And if it isn't actual military assets/formations doing so, then it'll be empowered/potentially deputized paramilitary groups, or potentially randumbs-with-a-rifle.)

Also, reducing/abolishing the NWS? The events of the recent (as of this post) tornado outbreak in Oklahoma should be enough of an example as to why that is a horrible idea.

aaaaaah I love this concept, just... everything about this. Especially since big'ol'bat'bro ought to have had even just *one* night topside.

On the other wing, however, the process of even getting Ares to the Overland... it's complicated. More so than with most canonically-known fliers, given Ares' above-average size. Ares even outright states he won't fit up the staircase leading to the concealed stone (and even if he could, getting a giant bat up all those stairs... well, it's doable, but there's gonna be a lot of cursin' involved), and if he can't fit there, then the laundry grate is similarly an unlikely surface access point. And that's without factoring in the possibility of others intending to use the laundry room during this process... and then the duo would have to scramble back down lest they're still in the building when Animal Control inevitably arrives on scene.

And then there's the decision of how to go about 'bring your pet cottonball companion bond to school'. > Bring Ares into the building? > Ask him to stay up on the roof and somehow convince the teacher to allow the class out to the yard so Ares can do some kind of dynamic entrance? (Assuming there's even an outdoor space on the complex...) > Open the window to let Ares stick his big fluffy head in?

But, aside from all the above... I still very much love everything about this hypothetical scenario.

To expand on this; RIP the hypothetical roommate/dormmate/etc. that attempts to harm/kill a bat that flies into their house/dorm/apt.

Or the landlord/neighbor/etc. that calls in an exterminator after a group of bats (maybe even a maternity colony, or possibly a over-winter hibernating group of myotines/Eptesicus fusscuss) temporarily moves into the attic space. Or maybe that individual is preparing to handle the situation themselves with DIY/COTS chemical weapons, either after calling an exterminator ("sorry, sir, but we're legally restricted from evicting a maternity colony during pup season") or already having knowledge of such legislation, knowing that no proper 'pest-control' service will do anything here, and yet still deciding to go through with the purge on their own...

I feel like Gregor grows up to be ready and willing to punch a human at all times but refuses to kill spiders or roaches.

I now wonder if this could be a reason why this species was the go-to victims whenever Kenneth Oppel/the writers of the cartoon series needed a bat to get chewed on/munched.

Just, a tangential connection in their minds between adorable cinnamon puffball bats and frosted cinnamon timbits/donuts.

And also, the Nightmare Scenario of pesticide companies subsequently targeting natural pest control species (to increase their profit margins and consumer reliance however slightly) is a high possibility.

Combine this with their hope for an apparent necromantic revival of the coal industry (thus, reopening of old mining complexi), and by 2028 (if not sooner), multiple bat species might be extinct.

It's MUCH worse than y'all have been hearing

There is so much here you'll have to look at it for yourself, but the climate policy alone is nightmare fuel.

The republican coalition wants to essentially end funding for green energy, dramatically promote and expand fossil fuel industries, and eliminate funding and regulations in all sectors promoting climate change mitigation. Task forces and offices related to clean energy and lowering carbon emissions will be eliminated and replaced with offices for promoting fossil fuels.

They want to LOG NATIONAL FORESTS TO "THIN" THE TREES TO STOP WILDFIRES.

THEY WANT TO FORCE OREGON AND CALIFORNIA TO LOG THEIR NATIONAL FORESTS AND TREAT THEM AS FOR TIMBER PRODUCTION

There are specific provisions in Project 2025 to essentially destroy the Endangered Species Act, causing it to defer to the rights of "economic development" and "private property." The plan includes delisting gray wolves, cutting the budget so that a "triage" system is used to determine which species will get protection, removing funding for research, removing experts and specialists from the decision-making process, and preventing "experimental" populations of animals from being established.

This is so much worse than I expected it to be and there's much more past that: They want to deregulate pesticides and remove much of the EPA's ability to regulate pollutants as well.

Also included in the manifesto is that we should

withdraw from nuclear weapons nonproliferation agreements, build more nuclear weapons, and resume nuclear weapons testing

The manifesto comprehensively outlines the scorched-earth elimination of abortion access, down to ensuring doctors aren't even trained to perform abortions. There are plans in here to disrupt abortion access GLOBALLY, not just domestically.

Not only that,the Republicans plan on reframing family planning programs around "fertility awareness" and "holistic family planning."

I can't even describe it all. I'm trying to give screenshots of the most important things but there's so much.

The foreign policy is a nightmare. They plan to push fossil fuels onto the Global South and promote the development of fossil fuel industry in the "developing world."

It is aggressive and antagonistic towards other nations, strongly pro-military, proposing that we INCREASE (!!!!!) defense spending, improve public opinion of the military and military recruitment, and increase the power to fund new weapons technology.

Just read the Department of Defense section. It's about greatly increasing and strengthening the military-industrial complex, collaborating more closely with weapons manufacturers, removing regulatory barriers to arming our allies and to inventing new military weapons, and recruiting more people into the military. They include provisions to develop AI technology for surveillance. And of course, continuing to support Israel is in there.

Elsewhere it proposes interfering in foreign countries with creepy pro-USA propaganda campaigns, even establishing international educational programs where faculty have to pledge to promote USA interests.

There's a line in here about getting rid of PBS because SESAME STREET is LEFTIST for God's sake.

HOW are people claiming democrats have the same policies. I feel like i'm losing my mind.
