I have spent all day watching classic f1 interviews and I never understood why people called Niki Lauda ugly. He's got an overbite but he was always attractive, even before his accident

“You can’t think you are going to win all the races by being quicker, because it’s not possible. So you need to find another way. ”
Alain Marie Pascal Prost was born in the commune of Lorette in France, he was an active and athletic child, despite being quite short (1.67 cm / 5 ft 6 in), he enthusiastically took part in various sports like wrestling, roller skating and football (in doing so he broke his nose several times). He was so into sports that he even considered a career as a gym instructor or as a professional footballer, but something else ruined his plans. At the age of 14, while he was on vacation with his family, he discovered karting, which quickly became his passion.
He turned out to be a capable driver, winning several karting championships during his teenage years, after all the successful years in karting he decided to leave school so he could become a full time racer. In 1975 he won the French senior karting championship afterwards he switched to the French Formula Renault which he won in 1976 by winning all but one race. He then went winning the Formula Renault European in 1977 before moving up to Formula 3 championship that he won in 1979. All these achievements caught the attention several Formula 1 teams, in particular McLaren. The team offered Alain to race in a third car at the Watkins Glen GP in 1979, but he declined the offer because he didn’t feel prepared since he wasn’t familiar with an F1 car and the track, so he agreed to sign with McLaren for the 1980 season.
After a year with McLaren, he decided to join Renault, staying in the team for 3 seasons before rejoining McLaren in 1984 alongside double world champion Niki Lauda, but after 5 years he joined Ferrari in 1990 as a result of his rivalry with teammate Ayrton Senna which reached its peak. He spent 2 years with the Italian team then went on a sabbatical year in 1992. The following year he made a come back driving for the Williams team, but at the end of the season he decided to retire from Formula 1 driving.
With his smooth and relaxed style behind the wheel, Alain (nicknamed ‘The Professor’ for his intellectual approach to the sport) is one of the most successful drivers in the history of Formula 1, in total he won four championships: 3 with McLaren (‘85, '86, '89) and the last one with Williams ('93), also he was a runner up in '83,'84,'88 and '90. He held the record for most wins (51) until it was broken by Michael Schumacher with 91 wins.
Alain is the only French world champion in the history of Formula 1.
