King Charles |||💬 “Now, as then, we are united in giving utmost thanks to all those who served in the Armed Forces, the uniformed services, the Home Front, indeed all the people of this country, the Commonwealth and beyond whose firm resolve and fortitude helped destroy Nazism and carry our allied nations through to V.E. Day. That debt can never truly be repaid; but we can, and we will, remember them.“
Tonight, at a concert to mark #VEDay80, The King paid tribute to all those who sacrificed their lives in World War Two.
His Majesty’s speech was delivered at 9pm, the exact same time that his grandfather, King George VI, made a radio broadcast on VE day in 1945.

This evening, The King attended the Film Premiere of ‘Ocean with David Attenborough’. The film highlights how the ocean has shaped the world, and why the future of the planet is intertwined with the health of the ocean.
🌊His Majesty, as Prince of Wales, first marked the issue of oil and plastic pollution in the sea in 1970 when he was 21 years old. Since then, The King has continued to champion the importance of ocean health.
The Queen and Harrison Machin, 5, plant the final poppies in an installation at the Tower of London to mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War. This act of Remembrance saw Her Majesty representing all those who served the Nation, with Harrison planting his poppy on behalf of the younger generation.
‘The Tower Remembers’ installation recalls the sacrifice and resilience of the wartime generation and will stand as a reminder of the long-lasting impact of conflict.
The Tower, which was itself bombed during the Blitz, will display nearly 30,000 ceramic poppies on the lawn to mark the year of Remembrance.
