“Your habits always come hunting after you. The self you construct will haunt you. A ghost wandering around in search of your body, eager to possess you. We are addicted to the self we construct. Slaves to what we have done.”
— Frank Herbert, Chapterhouse: Dune

I know people like to interpret Paul as an outright villain of the story and while that's not unreasonable, I personally love another interpretation.
It doesn't matter if you are a kind person with good intentions, it doesn't matter if you are smarter that anyone else and it doesn't matter if you can literally see the future, NO ONE has the right to hold absolute power over other people.
Systems with strict vertical hierarchy cause oppression. There is no way around it. Even that one guy who you think is better than that shouldn't be put at the top.
Paul being portrayed with many positive character traits doesn't muddy the message, it enhances it.
“They said you were dead,” Gurney repeated.
“And it seemed the best protection to let them think so,” Paul said.
Gurney realized that was all the apology he’d ever get for having been abandoned to his own resources, left to believe his young Duke … his friend, was dead. He wondered then if there were anything left here of the boy he had known and trained in the Ways of fighting men.
Paul took a step closer to Gurney, found that he had tears in his eyes. “Gurney ….”
It seemed to happen of itself, and they were embracing, pounding each other on the back, feeling the reassurance of solid flesh.
“You young pup! You young pup!” Gurney kept saying.
And Paul: “Gurney, man! Gurney, man!”
In 1997, Last Unicorn gave Zug the chance at recreating Frank Herbert’s ‘Dune’ through a new trading card series. He was originally told to base his work off of David Lynch’s film, but after complications with licensing, “they told me to avoid similarity to Lynch’s visuals” says Mark Zug.
