Eastern Sumatran Rhinoceros.

Also known as the Bornean Sumatran Rhino. According to scientists, this animal is functionally extinct, meaning that the population will be unable to recover. About only 15 individuals exist in the wild. It is the smallest of all three subspecies, making it the smallest among all species of rhinos. Its fur is denser when young but becomes sparse and darker when grows.

The difference between this subspecies and the Western Sumatran Rhinoceros is mainly genetic.

And with this rhino, I finish all the rhino family. This is my favorite animal and it was so enriching to work on this project because allowed me to know them better and be aware of how close many of them are to extinction (if not already extinct), after having survived millions of years of adaptation through evolution.

Think how sad would be that an animal who has survived the most abrupt changes on earth for thousands of centuries and has shown how strong and adaptative is, will succumb in less than two centuries because of our fault. Western Sumatran Rhinoceros

The first time I knew about the existence of this animal, I was 9 years old. It wasn't a photograph but an illustration and I was completely astonished that an animal that resembles prehistoric times was still among us. I finally saw a photograph when I was about 15. There wasn't any internet at that time so access to things was entirely through books. One of my wishes in life is to see one of these ones in person but knowing its precarious situation, the hope to see one fades a little every day. The Western Sumatran Rhinoceros is the most numerous of all the three subspecies with no more than 80 individuals. This subspecies was the last one to inhabit a zoo. The Cincinnati Zoo. The animal left the zoo in 2015 to return to Indonesia in order to start a reproduction program that has brought some success but nothing significant.

However, one female calf was born this year (2022), which brings some hope to the preservation of the species. ___________________________________________ References: Sumatran_rhinoceros Photo Credit: David Ellis.

Eastern Black Rhinoceros

Black rhinos have the most subspecies among all rhinos. At some point, it was believed that it was 23 subspecies of black rhinos. This was made of poor investigations based on parts of bones, skulls, and just mere sights of the animal.

With time, better studies suggested that the subspecies consisted of just t four. There is still debate because some say there are five subspecies (which is the one I am inclined to believe) but this cannot be proven because three of the five subspecies are already extinct, and there is not even a photographic register of them. Some skulls and bones are around but it's hard to make conclusions based on just little remains of the animal. It is hard for me to believe that they were extinct without even a picture of them. It is not the case for this subspecies but its situation is critical. A little more than 700 are in the wild including a small group of them that were taken to South Africa. This is uncommon because this animal is restricted to Kenya and Tanzania. Its future is uncertain because of the poaching of the animal for their horns. If there is a market eager to buy horns, it will be some eager to risk their lives in order to feed that market as well.

The Digital Sticker Album Is Almost Done. I Will Begin With Perissodactyla Order Which Contains The Rhinos,

The digital sticker album is almost done. I will begin with Perissodactyla order which contains the rhinos, horses, and tapirs families. Is looking good and the mechanics are working. More of it soon. Let's see the animal of this week. Māui Dolphin This is a subspecies of Hector's Dolphin (The one I showed you the last time). Also, live uniquely on New Zealand coasts, but more specifically in a very small range of the West of the North Island of the country. Sadly, less than 60 animals exist in the wild, making it the most endangered dolphin in the world. There are several programs that are in action in order to protect it from extinction and the results have been somehow optimistic. Fishing, Toxoplasmosis (an infection caused by a parasite called Toxoplasma), Brucellosis (a Bacteria), Oil and gas operations, and Climate change are the reasons why this dolphin is on the brink of extinction. It's always sad to see an animal fading away. I hope the programs that are working to recover their numbers work. Here is a link to one of them in case you want to know more. Working On This One Was Simply Amazing. I Was Able To Catch The Lighting And The Shadows To Make It As

Working on this one was simply amazing. I was able to catch the lighting and the shadows to make it as real as possible. Colombian Tapir

The Colombian Tapir is a subspecies of the Lowland Tapir and lives exclusively in Colombia. Colombia has three of the four subspecies of Lowland Tapir and this subspecies inhabits the lowlands of the North of the country.

The species is ranked as Vulnerable but this subspecies is classified as Critically Endangered in Colombia. Extinct already in many areas where it used to be seen due mostly to fragmentation of its environment, some recent studies showed the reappearance of the subspecies in areas where hasn't been seen for decades. Some think that the animal was never gone. The land where the animal lived is mostly unpopulated and keep an eye. Either the harsh environment or the internal struggle of the country, somehow keep human populations away from the forest and make the study of this subspecies, or any other, difficult.  __________________________________________

I Absolutely Loved Doing This One. I Knew There Were Different Subspecies Of Giraffes But I Never Put

I absolutely loved doing this one. I knew there were different subspecies of giraffes but I never put attention to them. I loved the fading light color spots on the very light skin tone of this one. To me, this giraffe is by far, the easiest to distinguish. Is the lightest giraffe in color, the patches are also pale, and is the only one that survives in the North West of Africa. Store Instagram Niger Giraffe / West African Giraffe Previously, this animal was found in Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Niger, and Chad. Today just can be found in Niger. By the 90s, the number of this animal decreased to mere 49 individuals. Today is protected and its numbers increase to about 600. This giraffe was confused by zoos in Europe. They thought they had this subspecies of giraffes, while in reality, they had the Kordofan one (the one I show in my last post on Giraffes). This happened because the populations that inhabit North Cameroon and Chad were thought to be Niger Giraffes while in fact were Kordofan. It was noticed after genetic studies were done. _______________________________________________ Credits: Niger Giraffe Niger Giraffe _______________________________________________ If you like the content please like, subscribe, and/or reblog, it will help me a lot. rinusuarez - Species, All Mammals of the World

African Bush Elephant Loxodonta africana Family: Equidae Genus: Equus Subspecies: 00

Feed: Herbivorous Habitat: Subtropical Dry Forest Status and Conservation: Endangered The largest elephant species, it stands as the tallest terrestrial animal on Earth, reaching heights of up to 3.96 meters. Highly social and exceptionally intelligent, elephants exhibit remarkable traits.

Given their impressive size and strong social bonds, elephants are effectively free from predators. Although young elephants may occasionally fall prey to lions or hyenas, their overall vulnerability is minimal.

Regrettably, the sole threat to their existence is us, humans. Throughout history, we have hunted elephants for sustenance and weaponry. In modern times, however, our pursuit of these magnificent creatures is driven primarily by a desire for ornamental purposes. _________________________________________ Thank you, guys, for being here. Humpback Whale

Humpback Whale

If there is a whale that has been ingrained in the imagination of humanity for centuries, and has been the one that make us fall in love of these magnificent mammals, is without a doubt, the Humpback Whale. Probably the most notorious whale in nature, the Humpback Whale has it's own genus (Megaptera) and stands out as a single one. However, some scientist have noticed that the populations in different regions have been developing very distinctive characteristics that theoretically will diverge the species into various subspecies. In other words: Evolution. In whaling times, this species almost got extinct, with it's population dropping to an alarming 90% before 1996. Today's numbers are stable around 80.000 and we can say is safe and can be found in mostly all oceans.

This is the only whale I have ever seen in my life. (well just a tail surfacing the sea) and despite the seconds I had the chance to observed it, it was extremely captivating. I hope one day I can see more of these beautiful animals and hopefully too, some of its relatives. ________________

My Artwork Featuring All Equine Species And Subspecies Is Now Available In My Store. It's Been About

My artwork featuring all equine species and subspecies is now available in my store. It's been about a year since I began working on horses, so it's satisfying to see it completed. Although they are a well-known and beloved family, there are still some discrepancies among biologists. Questions persist, such as whether the extinct Tarpan should be classified as a species or not, and even the classification of domestic and feral horses. Moreover, it's concerning that four subspecies of this family are already extinct.

Regardless, for those who love horses and those who wish to delve deeper into this captivating family, you can purchase the artwork here:

Turkmenian Kulan Ever Heard Of A Wild Ass That Outruns Jeeps And Survives In Places Where Even Camels

Turkmenian Kulan Ever heard of a wild ass that outruns jeeps and survives in places where even camels complain? Meet the Turkmenian kulan, a desert daredevil with a name that sounds like a punchline but belongs to one of Central Asia’s toughest mammals. With serious speed, serious stamina, and zero interest in being tamed, this wild ass is a master of dry-land survival—and yes, "kulan" really does mean wild ass in Turkic.
