sunday 13 october
hi! long time no see, tumblr. i took a break for the first month or so of school because there was so much to do, including my final silver dofe expedition, but now it’s the break and i’m spending the time off relaxing and catching up on everything.
those who have done gold duke of edinburgh- is it worth it? i’m really questioning whether to do it, as this is a big year for me and on top of 5 highers i’m doing grade 7 violin so i’m not convinced i could take it on and do well in everything. please let me know if you did it and think it’s actually worth it in the long run lol :)
27th march 2020
was being all productive rewriting my higher physics notes (seeing as i’ve no set work until after easter -_-), but then i got onto fission and started raging about how undercredited lise meitner is, so now i’m in a state of feminist rage about the severe lack of women in stem and particularly physics. happy friday!
[3/50 days of productivity]
this morning was spent doing some biology revision of the heart, and then some musical periods revision as i’m doing my grade 6 violin exam at the end of may and needed a refresher on the key elements of each era🎻

I'm trying to find more people to follow.
rules: answer 10 questions, then write 10 for the people you tag to answer!
@chazza-studies-alevels’s questions:
1. If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be and why?
oh, so many options. i think i would change how some ignorant people only see one correct way to live so that they are more open-minded.
2. What’s your favourite quality in yourself?
i’m a very determined person (eg right now i’m sitting at 1:30am waiting for clouds to pass so i can see a comet.)
3. What’s your favourite quality in other people?
loyalty and genuine kindness.
4. What’s something you wish you could do?
i wish i could play piano much better!
5. If you could live anywhere, where would you?
i would love to live in iceland
6. Who is your biggest inspiration and why?
in my personal life, both my grannies are my inspirations. but on a wider scale i look up to jessica meir and christina koch a lot, as well as alexandria ocasio-cortez and mae jemison.
7. Why did you choose your subjects/course?
physics, because i love space and understanding the world around me. maths, because it’s useful in physics and i love problem solving. chemistry, because i’m good at it and love understanding why things work. music performance, because i need a way to be creative and grow confidence!
8. What’s your favourite subject/pastime?
my favourite subject is physics (although currently we’re studying mechanics which i hate so maybe chemistry atm) and my favourite pastime is reading/cycling
9. If you could meet one person from history, who would it be and what would you say?
i’d love to meet mae jemison and tell her i think she is amazing and so so cool and a true hero of mine. OH or carrie fisher!! i’d tell her how much i loved princess leia as a little girl
10. What are you most grateful for in life?
i am so grateful to have grown up in a safe environment and have gone to a good school where i’ve had so many opportunities <3

some russian work ft the flowers i’m about to press 💐🌼
i be like *doesn’t understand brand new, advanced topic instantly* and my brain be like *you are a failure and a terrible student. why do you even do this class oh my god you’re so bad at it and everybody is better than you. time to give up* and that’s on imposter syndrome !
So let’s say you’re in the same boat I am (this is a running theme, have you noticed?) and you’ve just got, like, SO MUCH STUFF that HAS to get done YESTERDAY or you will DIE (or fail/get fired/mope). Everything needs to be done yesterday, you’re sick, and for whatever reason you are focusing on the least important stuff first. What to do!
Take a deep breath, because this is a boot camp in prioritization.
Make a 3 by 4 grid. Make it pretty big. The line above your top row goes like this: Due YESTERDAY - due TOMORROW - due LATER. Along the side, write: Takes 5 min - Takes 30 min - Takes hours - Takes DAYS.
Divide ALL your tasks into one of these squares, based on how much work you still have to do. A thank you note for a present you received two weeks ago? That takes 5 minutes and was due YESTERDAY. Put it in that square. A five page paper that’s due tomorrow? That takes an hour/hours, place it appropriately. Tomorrow’s speech you just need to rehearse? Half an hour, due TOMORROW. Do the same for ALL of your tasks
Your priority goes like this:
5 minutes due YESTERDAY
5 minutes due TOMORROW
Half-hour due YESTERDAY
Half-hour due TOMORROW
Hours due YESTERDAY
Hours due TOMORROW
5 minutes due LATER
Half-hour due LATER
Hours due LATER
DAYS due YESTERDAY
DAYS due TOMORROW
DAYS due LATER
At this point you just go down the list in each section. If something feels especially urgent, for whatever reason - a certain professor is hounding you, you’re especially worried about that speech, whatever - you can bump that up to the top of the entire list. However, going through the list like this is what I find most efficient.
Some people do like to save the 5 minute tasks for kind of a break between longer-running tasks. If that’s what you want to try, go for it! You’re the one studying here.
So that’s how to prioritize. Now, how to actually do shit? That’s where the 20/10 method comes in. It’s simple: do stuff like a stuff-doing FIEND for 20 minutes, then take a ten minute break and do whatever you want. Repeat ad infinitum. It’s how I’ve gotten through my to do list, concussed and everything.
You’ve got this. Get a drink and start - we can do our stuff together!
