You know who that is?
That’s fucking Senator Wendy Davis (D-TX), who is currently in the middle of filibustering a bill that would effectively close down most abortion clinics in the state of Texas.
The only way to block the bill would be to stall it, and the only way to stall it is to filibuster it.
Which means my girl Wendy has to speak non-stop. Without pausing to eat or go to the bathroom, or leaning on anything. She started at 11:18am CDT today and must go until midnight.
That’s about 13 hours in total.
LIKE. A. BOSS.
GET IT, GIRL.
I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a door mat or a prostitute. ~Rebecca West, "Mr Chesterton in Hysterics: A Study in Prejudice," The Clarion, 14 Nov 1913, reprinted in The Young Rebecca, 1982
No, you can’t deny women their basic rights and pretend it’s about your ‘religious freedom.’ If you don’t like birth control, don’t use it. Religious freedom doesn’t mean you can force others to live by your own beliefs.

Remember a few months ago when Marine Captain Matthew Phelps proposed to his boyfriend, Ben Schock, inside the White House and he said yes?
Well, they tied the knot this past weekend!
Outside the Stonewall Inn, as a crowd was celebrating the Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage ruling, I met Don Russell, 84, and his 100-year-old partner, Charles Schaeffer.
These two men have been together for 62 YEARS.
When they started dating, Harry Truman was president. It was an entirely different world for gay men, to put it mildly.
"You couldn’t walk around like this," said Don, looking down. Their hands were clasped tightly together.
I like strong woman. The ones who look at you straight in the eye, the ones that can make you quiver in your boots with the simple raising of an eyebrow. These woman who wear their skin like well-worn armor, who have their experiences etched in the creases of their hands and laugh lines around their eyes, these are the women who inspire me. I like their unapologetic nature, their fierce determination and their unshakable beliefs in the legitimacy of their cause. I know that these woman are sharp, they can be demanding, unrelenting, uncompromising. After all, they are from a generation that had to fight tooth and nail to achieve their successes. They persevered in arts, politics, academia, and media and carved the paths that younger women like me take for granted.
