Tens of thousands of hungry displaced Palestinians having to stand still in near-total silence as their executioners roll past them in military patrol vehicles.

This is a level of grim dystopia I never thought I would bear witness to in my lifetime.

Palestinian doctors “are working on a daily basis on the most horrific, explosive trauma that you’ve ever seen. They’re doing sometimes 14, 15 amputations, mostly on children, per day, and they’ve been doing it for six months now.”

Alex de Waal has covered famines in Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia. His prediction on Gaza:

"most intense famine since World War II."

"Even if the shooting ends today and the aid trucks begin to roll, the dying will carry on for some time"

We are about to witness in Gaza the most intense famine since the second world war | Alex de Waal
the Guardian
Gaza’s health crisis has its own dreadful momentum. Even if the shooting ends today and the aid trucks begin to roll, the dying will carry o

Gaza is already the most intense starvation catastrophe of recent decades. The death toll from hunger and disease may soon surpass the body count from bombs and bullets. The Famine Review Committee reported this week that Gaza is facing “imminent famine”. The Integrated Phase Classification (IPC) system, set up 20 years ago, provides the most authoritative assessments of humanitarian crises. Its figures for Gaza are the worst ever by any metric. It estimates that 677,000 people, or 32% of all Gazans, are in “catastrophic” conditions today and a further 41% are in “emergency” conditions. It expects fully half of Gazans, more than 1 million people, to be in “catastrophe” or “famine” within weeks. A parallel report from the Famine Early Warning System Network of the US Agency for International Development sounds the same alarm. It is the clearest warning that the network has given at any time in its 40-year history. A rule of thumb is that “catastrophe” or “famine” conditions mean a daily death rate from from hunger or disease of two people out of 10,000. About half are children under five years old. The arithmetic is simple. For a population of 1 million, that is 200 deaths per day, 6,000 per month.

Every child in Gaza knows the “whistle.” It is the sound of a rocket dropping on a house.

Every child knows that when you hear the whistle, it means that it is not your house being bombed.

Because you will not hear anything when you are bombed. https://t.co/Ws94YH4QSZ

There is no such thing as childhood in Gaza
The Electronic Intifada
Israeli attacks expose Palestinian children to daily horrors.

Children in Gaza can tell an F-16 from an F-35 from a drone. They know a whole litany of things that are beyond their years. Things that they shouldn’t have to know. Over 10,000 children have been killed in Gaza. The children who have survived have seen their families, friends and neighbors killed by the Israeli army. They have seen near-death by starvation and death by suffocation, under the rubble and by explosion. Children in Gaza do not have the luxury of death being a mystery. It is a daily presence. If a child in Gaza is hungry, they know not to throw a tantrum. They have become used to feeling hunger. The same is true of the cold. Every child in Gaza now knows what it is to be unhoused, to sleep in a tent or on the streets in winter.

In 1991, the US bombed a baby formula factory in Iraq as part of "Op Desert Storm." The US lied, saying it was a biological weapons facility, when really it was the only source of infant formula food for children one year and younger in Iraq.

Urgent: Help Evacuate Injured Dad Out of Gaza War, organized by Hussein Abukaresh
gofundme.com
Dear Compassionate Supporters, I am reaching out to you with a p… Hussein Abukaresh needs your support for Urgent: Help Evacuate Injured D

Dear Compassionate Supporters,

I am reaching out to you with a plea that weighs heavily on my heart. My father, Ghoson Abukaresh, a 70-year-old Palestinian residing in Gaza, is facing unimaginable peril amidst the relentless conflict. As his daughter, I implore you to join me in a mission to secure his safety, well-being, and access to urgent medical care.

Ghoson, a resilient and determined individual, has endured the horrors of war, but the ongoing conflict in Gaza has presented him with challenges that surpass anything he has faced before. Following the destruction of our family home and neighborhood, my father sought refuge in an UNRWA clinic. Tragically, he was injured in an airstrike, sustaining severe wounds from shrapnel in his arm and foot. The shrapnel remains lodged in his body, causing excruciating pain and complications, further exacerbated by his diabetes and high blood pressure.

Here is a glimpse of my father's dire situation:

Ghoson Abukaresh, my beloved father, bravely battling the consequences of war.

Despite his suffering, my father remains steadfast in his desire for peace and security. He dreams of a life free from the turmoil of conflict, where he can live out his days with dignity and tranquility.

To facilitate my father's evacuation from Gaza and provide him with the urgent medical attention he needs, we are seeking your support. The funds raised will cover:

Surgery and medical treatment: €40,000This includes the removal of shrapnel, along with necessary medical procedures, medication and rehabilitation to ensure his recovery.

Travel expenses to a safe destination: €20,000Rafah Crossing fees: €10,000 the expenses associated with coordinating his safe passage through the Rafah border crossing to reach a place of refuge. This covers the costs associated with transporting my father to a location where he can receive adequate medical care and begin the process of rebuilding his life.

living expenses: €1,000 a month (a total of €6,000 for six months)This will provide for my father's basic needs, including accommodation, food, medication, and other essentials, for a period of six months.

Your generous contribution, no matter the size, will make a profound difference in my father's life. Together, we can provide him with the lifeline he desperately needs to access medical treatment and find safety away from the conflict zone.

Please consider sharing this campaign with your friends, family, and networks to amplify our reach and impact. Your support will bring us one step closer to securing my father's health and safety.

On behalf of my entire family, I extend my deepest gratitude for your compassion and support during this challenging time. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in my father's life and provide him with the security and care he so urgently requires.

With heartfelt thanks,

Lina

This is huge. Apartheid South Africa collapsed largely because other countries didn't want anything to do with it (some were forced to take that position by the BDS movement)

Repost of Instagram post by alessandra_sanguinetti:

“In 2004 I worked as an intern in Newsweek and had to go through the wires coming in from the Middle East.

The Iraq war was raging. Israel was committing its routine violations and killings.

The images were devastating and unequivocally condemning of both the USA and Israel, but I remember the editors would reject all my picks and demand images of burnt cars or vague images of destruction.

So I brought a hard drive and collected everything they didn't publish.

It was my first live glimpse of the lack of ethics or integrity in most US media.

Not the journalists on the ground, but of the senior editors making the calls - in their self important glass cubicles.

And no, to the cynics out there..it's not all too complicated to discuss on social media.

Social media is the only reason we know what's happening in Palestine.

And the only reason mainstream news has to keep up and sprinkle some actual news now and then.

Meanwhile we are seeing much less footage coming out of Gaza - Israel has been killing off all the journalists.

This is terrifying.”

This isn't the first time. Last year, the IDF would leave behind explosives disguised to look like toys (they did this in Lebanon as well)
