DNA Guarantee by Kodi Rhianna is Black Family coded
- more under the cut -
The first stanza gives me the vibes of Alphard, Andie, and Sirius deciding to leave and begging for their siblings to follow. The Black family drains everything unique about it's children and makes soilders, and those three didn't want to be. They tried for so long to change (beating a long dead horse) but being apart of the Black family is a life sentence.
The chorus is everyone. All of them are trapped in a cycle until they break it. "Never your baby, just a maybe," they never had kids to have kids. It was always for heirs. The Blood purity, so forth eeee
The middle stanza is Sirius and Regulus and Walburga.
It's between them and Walburga in the first part. Sirius and Regulus reminding Walburga of Alphard and herself - one trapped and lashing out and one desperately fleeing. Its also difficult because of how similar all three are - forced into positions, unhappy, lashing out. I would image that if they interacted as older, Sirius and Walburga still would have issues due to this. Even if she doesn't or didn't hit them with her hand, spells and words do it best.
It's between Regulus and Sirius in the second part. The dogs biting the bone is Sirius messing everything up with Remus and the others. "Daughter bites her words," Regulus not coming out as FmT for years due to fear. "Fight like wolves, then flee like birds," Whenever the brothers fight it's always vicious, pulling at old wounds and cruel - like their family. Then they both realize, fleeing before the other says something. "From the save pack but rivaling herds," the brothers come from the same family, but in the end have vastly different friends.
I also just imagine that when it doesn't get physical, the family does have screaming matches often. Cops would be called, the whole thing. Very early the kids learned they could use their words effectively against each other even if they couldn't against their parents. I imagine that while close, the boys and girls had a battle of shouts at least once a day (then sneak each other treats to make up for it.)
I could also imagine Sirius and Regulus trying to settle into the Potters and realizing how intertwined their family is in them. And also Reg and Sirius have to stomp to the back of the garden to have their arguments - they cannot not have them, because then they get waaaay worse.
God bless that one creator on insta keeping the Walburga Black angst alive. God bless
Walburga: you do not deserve my son.
James: you don’t deserve your son.
Walburga: excuse me.
James: you heard me.
Walburga: you are not good enough for my son.
Remus: you’re not good enough for your son.
Walburga: pardon.
Remus: you heard me.
the black family at dinner:
sirius:
walburga:
orion:
regulus:
sirius: i like DICK DICK DICK DICK DICK DICK DICK
it's no big surprise you turned out this way
"sirius orion black, how dare you! how dare you disrespect me and how dare you screw our reputation up! you should be ashamed of yourself!" walburga shouted in the black's dining room, making the glasses on the table shake. "get out of my sight!"
sirius got up of his chair quickly and ran to his room, thoughts coming up in his head.
when they closed their eyes and prayed you would change
walburga sat on her chair, reached her glass full of wine, took a sip and looked out the window, the moon reflecting itself in her eyes, glistering in tears.
"what did i do wrong" she whispered under her breath. "didn't i raise him right? didn't i raise him to be the heir we all want him to be? am i a bad mother?"
and they cut your hair and sent you away
"where are you going?" regulus asked his older brother, leaning against the door frame.
"away from you all. i'm done" sirius answered." you can come too."
"no..i can't" the other one replied.
sirius sighed. "i'm sorry it has to be like this. well...take care." he finished, putting the last things in his chest and walked downstairs.
"sirius black, where are you going?" walburga asked, getting up from the chair.
"away. and i'm not coming back" he said coldly and left the house.
"sirius...!" walburga shouted. "sirius orion black!"
you stopped by my house the night you escaped
"sirius?" james gasped. "what happened?"
"i-i don't think it's time to explain" sirius replied, panting.
"why am i standing here like this? come in!"
with tears in my eyes i begged you to stay
"i shouldn't come here, i'm sorry" sirius sighed. "i'll just pack my things and search for a place"
"no" james responded. "stay here! you're welcomed!"
"james, you're amazing, but i can't take it. i'm not worthy of staying here, and i'm just a burden."
"no you're not!" james replied. "stay! please!"
you said "hey man, i love you"
"no" sirius finished and exited the room.
"no! wait! sirius!"
"no, james. i shouldn't have been welcomed here. i'll just look for a place to go. sorry"
"sirius!" james shouted after him, with hope that he'll come back.
as he saw sirius walking off, james could only hear the word "sorry" in his head.
"sirius!"
"but no fucking way"
I don't know, but when Walburga finds out that Regulus is queer she's livid, but doesn't disown him thinking she can get him to settle with a nice pureblood girl and start working on some heirs.
When Walburga finds out that Regulus is dating a half blood, half breed, she's livid but doesn't disown Regulus because she brought the Black family heirs into this world and Merlin help her someone was going to continue it.
Already knowing that Sirius is a lost cause, she clings onto the fact that she's certain she can get Regulus away from the disgusting half blood. And makes anyone who will listen aware of just what she thought, all their pureist relatives agree readily with her.
Walburga hates Remus with a passion. She hasn't been this passionate about something in a long while. Walburga hasn't even met Remus, probably never will, but she hates him for the fact he is steering Regulus away from the goal at hand. A pure wizarding society.
She was going to kill Remus. If that's what it took to have her grip on Regulus once more, she would do it without a second thought. And she was going to do it too, almost had even, but then word got out that they were expecting child.
She was livid and, for the first time, unsure what to do to get her own way. She hated Remus but became a little bit more tolerant of him, though you'd never be able to tell because she still spoke the same ill of him, but that was a Black heir he was going to be producing, so she was conflicted.
It took Walburga a while but decided she couldn't have a person of Remus' status tainting the bloodline. So him and their now 4 children would have to go, Regulus could always rebuild his family with a pureblood woman.
Regulus was only the tiniest bit ashamed that the first spell that came from his lips when his bitch of a mother tried to attack his family, his beautiful babies, was the killing curse. But he doesn't regret it. He needed his family to be safe.
Remus wouldn't have been able to get his wand in time anyway, with a 4 year old and a 2 almost 3 year old tucked into his sides, a 2 year old in his lap and a new born in his arms while reading them all a story. He hadn't realised that Walburga was even there until Regulus had shouted, and she had dropped dead, too engrossed in their children.
alphard and cygnus make fun of walburga cuz shes the older sister so strict and perfect that she looks like a robot
cygnus and walburga make fun of alphard cuz hes the middle brother that doesnt fit in the family and no one pays attention
walburga and alphard make fun of cygnus cuz hes the younger brother that thinks he's smarter than he really is
i absolutely love the idea of walburga and druella being best friends that went to hogwarts in the same year
druella is the popular and beautiful girl that everyone loves, shes charismatic, fun and extremely sociable
walburga is conventionally pretty but people are so intimidated by her that they forget that, shes serious, never seems to smile and doesn't have the patience to (and doesn't even know how) make friends
and yet they work so well
they are super protective of each other, walburga always keeps an eye on anyone who might hurt druella while druella doesn't allow anyone to say bad things about walburga.
druella has thousands of people wanting her attention and yet walburga is always her priority
walburga always says that she hates jokes and "superficial" things but she could spend hours listening to druella talk about the most diverse and meaningless subjects. and druella is the only one that is able to make walburga laugh (which is still a hard task)
theyre also kinda sapphic but they will never realized that
they have to stay apart when the rosiers make druella marry a man from the nott family, far from each other after years of being stuck together at hogwarts. but then this random man dies, and the next husband that druella's family finds is walburgas younger brother that has only 18, while walburga just got married to her own counsin. and theyre glued together again, living in the same mansion, being in the same family and its kinda weird but theyre happy to be close
I truly wonder what was going through Sirius' mind when he learned about his mother's passing. I assume a big part of him felt vindicated, happy, free, maybe even a bit detached and indifferent (after all he hadn't seen his mother in a while) but I have to wonder if a part of him grieved the mother he never had, the love he never got. A part of me wonders if he got overwhelmed by the unfairness of his childhood, the acceptance that was so expected for the people around him and was never given to him, the parts of Sirius that broke and would always be a bit shattered because of the way his mother raised him. What if a small, tiny part of him, the part that would forever be a child desperately wanting his family's support, couldn't help but remember the small moments of protectiveness and gentleness his mother showed to him before everything, the way she hugged him before his first year at Hogwarts , the way she cleaned his bruises even though he knows she is the one that caused them
Regulus brings Harry to meet his grandmother
[Regulus Black x Fem Potter! reader]
word count: 785
warnings: hurt/comfort, Walburga being a meanie to Harry
-
Regulus wasn’t entirely sure why he agreed to this.
It was a terrible idea. He knew that. Y/N knew that. Even Kreacher, who had loyally followed him into this new life, had given him a wary look when he mentioned visiting 12 Grimmauld Place.
Yet, here they were.
Harry held Regulus’ hand tightly as they stood outside the Black family’s ancestral home. The looming townhouse was as dark and unwelcoming as ever, its iron-wrought serpent door knocker glinting in the dim London light. Regulus exhaled sharply, tightening his grip on his son’s small hand.
“Stay close to me,” he murmured.
Harry nodded, his green eyes wide as he stared up at the tall building. “Are you sure she won’t like… hex me?” he whispered, only half-joking.
Regulus almost smirked. She would if she could.
Instead, he knocked.
The door swung open almost immediately, revealing Kreacher. His large, bat-like ears twitched as he looked down at Harry. For a long moment, he was silent, his expression unreadable. Then, to Harry’s surprise, the elf bowed low.
“Master Regulus,” he croaked. “Young Master Potter.”
Harry’s eyebrows shot up. Master Potter? No one had ever called him that before.
Regulus gave a curt nod, stepping inside and ushering Harry in after him. The house smelled the same—dust, old magic, and a hint of something burning in the fireplace. The walls were lined with dark portraits, and Harry nearly jumped as one of them moved.
But before he could get a proper look, a voice rang through the house—sharp, commanding, and dripping with disdain.
“Regulus.”
Harry turned toward the voice and saw her.
Walburga Black stood at the foot of the grand staircase, dressed in deep emerald green. Her sharp features were set in stone, her dark eyes taking in her son before shifting to Harry.
The temperature in the room seemed to drop.
Regulus straightened his shoulders, his grip on Harry’s hand firm. “Mother.”
Walburga’s lips thinned as her gaze swept over Harry like he was an insect. “So,” she said slowly, coldly. “This is what you’ve been reduced to. Raising a half-blood.”
Harry stiffened, instinctively stepping closer to Regulus.
Regulus’ expression didn’t change. “He is my son.”
Walburga scoffed. “He is James Potter’s son.” Her voice was venomous. “A disgrace to the family name.”
Harry felt his face grow hot, but before he could say anything, Regulus spoke—his voice steady, but edged with steel.
“He is my son,” he repeated, quieter this time. “And I will not tolerate you speaking of him that way.”
Walburga’s eyes darkened. “You dare bring him into this house?”
“I brought him here so you could meet your grandson,” Regulus said, his tone even. “Not to hear your outdated prejudices.”
Harry bit his lip, gripping Regulus’ sleeve. He didn’t understand everything, but he knew she didn’t like him. He could feel it.
For a long, tense moment, Walburga simply stared at them.
Then, to Harry’s utter shock, she let out a low chuckle.
“You’ve changed,” she murmured, her gaze locked onto Regulus. “Not that it matters. The blood in your veins remains the same. That thing” —her eyes flicked to Harry— “does not.”
Harry flinched.
Regulus’ jaw tightened. “Come, Harry,” he said, his voice calm but firm. “We’re leaving.”
Harry didn’t hesitate, stepping quickly in line beside him as Regulus turned on his heel.
As they reached the door, Walburga’s voice rang out again.
“When the time comes,” she said, “you’ll regret your choices, Regulus.”
Regulus didn’t stop walking.
Kreacher, who had remained silent through the exchange, gave a deep bow as they passed.
As soon as they stepped outside, Harry let out a breath he hadn’t realized he’d been holding.
Regulus glanced down at him. “Are you alright?”
Harry hesitated, then nodded. “…She doesn’t like me.”
Regulus sighed, running a hand through his dark hair. “That doesn’t matter,” he muttered. Then, more softly, “I do.”
Harry blinked up at him.
“…Mama does, too,” he said after a moment.
Regulus smirked. “Of course she does. She’s your mother.”
Harry smiled a little, shuffling closer to Regulus as they started walking again.
“…Do you think Kreacher likes me?”
Regulus chuckled, glancing back at the house. “I think he’s figuring it out.”
Harry hummed. “I liked him.”
Regulus raised a brow. “You did?”
“He bowed,” Harry said simply. “I think that means he kinda likes me.”
Regulus shook his head in amusement. “You are far too optimistic.”
But as they made their way home, he found himself silently grateful.
Harry would never know the cold walls of that house. He would never be raised in darkness, surrounded by cruel whispers of blood purity and superiority.
He had a family.
A real one.

Unpopular opinion but, i with my whole heart believe that Walburga Black, despite being a terrible mother, did love her sons and did what she thought was right for them despite her methods being extremely cruel, callous, toxic and unhealthy. She's a victim too, but of course that doesn't excuse her actions of disowning Sirius and all, but I do believe that she loved Sirius and Regulus alot :(
Sirius: So… my mother wanted to know the names of my friends.
Sirius: I panicked and started brushing my teeth.
Sirius: Because I can’t talk while I’m brushing my teeth, ya know?
Walburga: You are not good enough for my son.
Remus: You’re not good enough for your son.
Walburga: Excuse me?
Remus: You heard me.
Head empty.. only thinking about how Knights of Walpurgis was named after Walburga.
You're onto something. You're CLEARLY ON TO SOMETHING. WAIT WAIT WAITTTTTT Somebody please write a fic the angst is gonna be so good oml
I think that Walburga and Tom Riddle were romantically and sexually involved during their Years at Hogwarts. Which is why Tom named his First Version of the Death Eaters the Knights of Walpurgis. Her Knights because she was supposed to be his Queen. But Walburga in the end broke up with him because she didn’t want to be married with a Half-Blood and cuz her Relationship with Tom was known she was already sorta defamed among Purebloods and thus could only marry her Cousin Orion.
She would probably also have hated Delphini if she had met her because she would be the living Proof of what she could have had and that ultimately she failed at everything in Life.
She chose her Family and the Pureblood Dogma over the Love of her Life and in turn she only got trapped in a Loveless Marriage with her own Cousin, whom she never loved as much as Tom, a Son who despite being talented spitted on everything she believed in and another who despite sharing her views simply couldn’t live up to her expectations.
All the while she would have to watch her own Niece living the Life that could have been hers because she loved Voldemort/Tom more than anything even her own Family and literally turned her back on her Pureblood Husband to be with him. Now Walburga would have had to watch as her Niece has a perfect little dark princess and is truly happy with the Man who Walburga actually loves and has an extremely talented daughter who is a perfect mix between Tom’s Beauty and Bellatrix’s and an Heiress of Slytherin and Grindelwald.
(I read somewhere that Druella could be Gellert and Vinda’s Daughter and since she was born in the 30s it’s not too far off given how close Vinda and Gellert seem.)
And Bellatrix gained that by truly loving and accepting Tom/Voldemort for who he is instead of what he could be and being brave enough to throw her Family aside for him. That would definitely have broken Walburga down completely and filled her with Jealousy beyond belief.
~
regulus had a mullet, a tiny one but a mullet nonetheless you CANNOT convince me otherwise!!!!!
I think Walburga liked Sirius more than Regulus. Sirius fought back. He was a leader, a protector. He was strong minded and passionate but also incredibly loyal to his friends. Walburga thought that if she could get Sirius to agree with her ideals, all of his characteristics would fall perfectly in place of Voldemort’s right hand man. He wouldn’t be just another DE, he would be in the inner circle. Walburga didn’t expect much from Regulus, so she didn’t care about him as much. Regulus was submissive and didn’t think for himself. She knew he would become a DE, so she didn’t pay attention to him. When Sirius left, Walburga was left with her spare. She was disappointed with not having a strong enough heir to be of more importance to Voldemort. Regulus was the disappointment in her eyes.
She was wrong about Regulus though. Regulus wasn’t submissive, he was strategic. He had his own opinions and ideals, he just never said them because he knew it wouldn’t get him anywhere. He knew how Sirius was treated and figured that speaking up for himself just wasn’t worth it. He became a DE because he wanted to. He felt awful about his brother hating him for it, but he agreed with the world he was told Voldemort wanted to create (I think he was manipulated into thinking Voldemort just wanted a peaceful world where everyone could be free).
When Regulus realized he’d been tricked, he didn’t want to be just another soldier on the light side like his brother, he wanted to take down Voldemort himself. (Little dramatic but love the enthusiasm) He sacrificed his life knowing that he would never get to say goodbye, never get to redeem himself in his brother’s eyes. It wasn’t expected nor welcome of him to do such a thing but he didn’t care. He did what he wanted, whether people knew it or not.
*tw child abuse
I like the thought of the one time Regulus helps Sirius is the night Sirius leaves.
Like, Walburga and Sirius are having this raging fight and as usual Regulus sits by the stairs and waits for it to be over.
As the fight starts to get violent he can hear Sirius fight back (which only started that summer)
He thinks Sirius is stupid and is only making it worse but it doesn’t help the anxiety of knowing one of them will get hurt. He just wants it all to stop.
He hears someone crash to the ground while his mother is still screaming curses. He’s scared out of his mind but his mother’s curses are slowly getting more severe and Sirius isn’t responding. He slowly gets up and walks to the parlor.
He realizes that he can hear Sirius, but it’s just whimpers. He doesn’t think about it too hard though. He doesn’t think about how he doesn’t have his wand on him. He doesn’t think about how he’s supposed to wait by the stairs. He doesn’t think about it when he stands in front of Sirius for the first time and disarms his mother from across the room. Right before she could utter the unforgivable. Her wand disappears from her hand. Into oblivion, Reg hopes.
He wanted it to stop. So he made it stop. But now he needs time to start up again so he can get the fuck out of there.
Sirius is bruised from head to toe but Reg manages to get him up the stairs. Sirius is only half conscious but he has a purpose as he stops leaning on him at the top of the stairs and starts ransacking his room.
Sirius can’t believe it. Reg did it. He stood up to the old hag. He’d been waiting for the right time to leave and this is just perfect. He doesn’t bother with clothes, James will have plenty. He grabs his school things and all his pictures. Starting with one of him and James on his wall and slowly making his way to the one of Moony on his bedside table.
“Come on Reggie, get a move on” Sirius throws over his shoulder. Reg’s just been standing there in shock.
Regulus is still at the top of the stairs. He can hear Sirius’ scuffling around his room and his mother’s scrambling for her wand downstairs. The sounds are quiet but loud. Eerily similar to one another.
“What are you doing?”
“We’re getting out of here.”
“What do you mean?”
Sirius finishes packing and turns back to Regulus. “Come with me. To James’. We can get out of here. We can leave.”
Sirius looks manic as he grabs Reg and takes them to his room. Sirius starts to grab his stuff and shove it into his bag. He’s breathing heavily, trying to shove down the panic.
“I know we haven’t gotten on very well these last few years… but we can fix it all now. Help me get all your stuff.”
“We can’t leave.” Regulus stills Sirius’ hands with his own. “Are you crazy? Mum will have a fit if we leave.”
“She won’t be able to find us.”
“She’ll know where you went. He’s your best friend.” Regulus knows all too well how close James and Sirius are. Practically brothers, as they say.
“Reg,” Sirius is firmer now, “I’m leaving now. With or without you.”
Sirius makes his way to Regulus’ window. He just has to open the window and leave. “Sirius, don’t go.”
It’s Regulus’ turn to panic. “Just stay. I’m sure it’ll all be fine. If we just apologize-“
“No Reg. No more. I can’t stay here.” Sirius opens the window and begins to clime out.
Regulus grabs his hand. “Sirius please. Sirius just stay. Don’t go. It’ll all be fine, just stay, please. Sirius I’m so scared. » Regulus’ voice fades at the end, but Sirius hears it nonetheless. He grabs him and they wrap their arms around each other for the final time. « You’ll never be what they want you to be. They’ll never be satisfied. »
Regulus doesn’t answer. they always had differing opinions.
They pull back from each other but Sirius holds Regulus’ face, remembering the last time he saw him as his brother. « Goodbye, Reggie. »
Regulus wanted to say so much. Don’t go. Come back to me someday. Don’t let this be goodbye. Good luck. I can’t lose you.
I love you
« Goodbye, brother. »
Sirius would’ve grabbed Regulus and forced him out the window. He would’ve tried harder when James blocked the front door as he tried to go back for him. But Regulus had proven himself. He had shown that he could stand up to their mother.
That was the first time Regulus had stood up for what was right. The second time, well, I’m sure you can guess the second time, was the last time.
“Walburga was also the given name of the mother of Josef Mengele, a Nazi doctor who conducted horrific experiments on prisoners in concentration camps. She was said to have been extremely cruel and a Nazi supporter, rather like Walburga Black's views on retaining blood purity.” (Walburga Black wiki)
This being part of the entomology of Walburga Black’s name is probably telling of her treatment of those she disagreed with (see: Sirius). Also, Harry and Sirius both relating Dolores Umbridge (who repeated physically and mentally tortured Harry) is also something to note. Not to mention the constant screaming at everybody, especially Sirius, in portrait-form, and how Sirius behaves when in 12 Grimmauld Place. That was the behaviour of a man forced to live in the place he was abused.
someone please write a “keeping up with the blacks” au it would be hilarious
dear walburga apologists,
sirius and regulus would hate you !
The Black sisters - moodboard
sirius black was meant to inherit the fortunes of both his grandparents, one through alphard and one through orion.
this is what could turn him into potentially the most powerful wizard in the lense of society. we know the malfoys were the richest when we were introduced to them, but that was in a world where the black heir was in prison.
this is what sells to me the idea that neither walburga or orion wanted to play the family game and leave the task up to cygnuss, since alphard didn’t played along either.
walburga and orion marriage was a powerful move. together they ensured the next heir to be powerful whilst securing the family line. but also, there’s a chance they had regulus not as the spare, or at least not in the sense for him to become the heir in case something happens with sirius, but more as to spare him of any duties.
they could’ve put all the expectations and pressure onto sirius and simultaneously free up his youngest to be who ever he wanted to be, an option they didn’t have.
