How Did Zuko Get Into The Mountaintop Air Temples????

How did Zuko get into the mountaintop air temples????

This is something that still baffles me to this day, because to my recollection Zuko never had one of those tanks that could climb up the mountain side. He also didn’t have access to the war balloons. To my knowledge he had two ships, a full crew, and a temper. But it was clearly stated that Zuko had searched all the air temples first, before venturing out to search the rest of the world. He is in the South Pole when he discovers Aang, so he had already searched the air temples. Aang mentioned that it is near impossible to access the air temples unless you have a way to defy gravity.

So I guess what I’m really asking is,

DID 13 YEAR OLD ZUKO CLIMB UP THE MOUNTAIN (with only basic climbing gear) OF EACH INDIVIDUAL AIR TEMPLE TO SEARCH FOR AANG?????

”The Fire Lord And The Southern Water Tribe Ambassador Sure Are Chummy Lately…” I Have This Headcanon

”The Fire Lord and the Southern Water Tribe Ambassador sure are chummy lately…” I have this headcanon (and I’m sure others do too) that Zuko and Katara have a lot of inside jokes/similar sense of humor from being friends for so long, and the Fire Nation nobles and officials are like… gee, they sure get along. I don’t know what they’re laughing about, but I just love the lead up to Zuko and Katara getting together being rife with Ambassador/Fire Lord flirtation, so I thought I’d do a quick grayscale sketch for that idea. Sorry it’s not like, super polished looking, but just had to get the idea of them laughing together as they leave a meeting out of my head. n.n  Please do not repost or use without permission, thanks.

The gaang plays a stupid game which basically tests how good zuko is at finding shit.

It starts off with aang trying to make zuko more likeable by showing how good he is at finding things. He hides their supplies in a weird part of the western air temple and is like “don’t worry. I’m sure zuko can find it by the end of the day.” He finds it in ten minutes.

The game gets more ridiculous. Aang hides their supply bag in secret rooms that not even he knew existed up until now. Katara freezes it in a block of ice and submerges it in a nearby lake. Sokka trains Appa to keep it in his mouth for long periods of time without swallowing it. Zuko finds it every damn time.

They’re impressed and somewhat unsettled by how good he is at this game. But they absolutely lose their shit when it comes to toph’s turn. She hides the supply bag deep underground and assures them that zuko can’t possibly find it unless he magically became an earth bender and learned seismic sense overnight.

Zuko kinda struggles with this one until he walks over the patch of dirt where toph buried the bag. It looks normal but he feels...different somehow?

Everyone’s thinking “oh god. Oh no. He can’t possibly do it. Don’t tell me he’s gonna do it.” Zuko silently points below his feet and the rest of the gaang have a collective breakdown.

Zuko’s like, “does this mean you guys think I’m cool now?” They’re all too terrified to say anything but “y-yeah sure.” And poor zuko is too socially inept to hear the fear in their voices. He just smiles and thinks his friends are liking him more now.

Injuries Reference List

If you’re writing anything where your characters are getting injured a lot, it might be helpful to have an injuries reference list on hand. WELL, DON’T WORRY ABOUT IT BECAUSE I CREATED ONE. This is mostly the result of me having to look up something every time a character was gravely injured/being a lifeguard for seven years. I have some knowledge of first aid and how it might apply to the characters in your story.

Simple scrapes/cuts: There’s usually not much to worry about besides MAYBE an infection, which can be avoided with rubbing alcohol or peroxide. Remember, peroxide usually doesn’t burn or sting, but rubbing alcohol probably will.  These injuries will bleed for a short amount of time, but it shouldn’t last too long.

Bruising: These occur when the blood vessels break under the skin, forming discoloration of the skin. The colors can vary, but they are usually purplish, bluish, or yellow. Again, this injury is usually not serious if it’s a result of a bump or cut, but if there’s significant bruising over a large area of the body there might be a serious problem. Usually time heals bruising.

Sprains: A sprain is torn or stretched ligament, but it is NOT a break. It is very common for someone to sprain an ankle or a wrist and it usually doesn’t require serious medical attention. The area might swell and should be iced. Sprains are usually treated with rest and a device that compresses the area—such as a sling or a bandage.

Broken bones (arms, fingers, legs, toes): Breaks can be serious, especially if they have to be set back into place. A person will most likely not be able to put pressure on a broken bone until it is healed (which could take weeks). A broken bone is REALLY serious when it fractures or breaks through the skin completely. If you write a character in this sort of situation, they will need to worry about infection and they might have to wait until the swelling goes down before splitting or covering.

Burns: Obviously, there are different degrees of burns, but simple burns will most likely be treated the same. Even the smallest burns will probably sting like hell, so it can be hard to function with an untreated burn. SERIOUS burns might require amputation (I’m talking about maybe 3rd to 4th degree burns). As a 1st degree burn is healing, it might itch—think how sunburn starts to itch after a while.

Broken back: A broken back can lead to paralysis, so you need to be very careful with how you treat someone. Your characters shouldn’t be throwing anyone over their shoulders with a back injury because it will only lead to more serious problems. If you suspect that someone has broken or injured their back, you need to keep them still until there is a way to safely move them.

Amputation: This happens when the removal of a body part because necessary to someone’s survival. If someone has a bad infection or there’s no way to stop the bleeding (you’ve applied a tourniquet, which will most likely end up causing an amputation later), a character might have to amputate in a serious situation.

Dislocated limb: If a bone “pops” out of its socket, a character might have to put it back into place. A dislocated limb restricts movement, so your character might not be able to go forward until the situation is resolved. Arms and fingers are commonly dislocated and there will probably be pain when they’re set back into place. Those limbs should be rested and iced to prevent swelling.

Jammed fingers: If you get your finger caught in a door, for example, and it doesn’t break; you might have a jammed finger. I’ve had a few of these in my life, which usually causes bruising and some pain, but it heals on its own. These types of injuries can be from jamming your fingers against something hard and you might lose a finger nail. They will most likely hurt for a while until they are healed.

Stab wounds: These are usually deep cuts by a knife or a sword or another sharp object. They need to be treated, as they are prone to infection, and they should be bandaged. If the bleeding is excessively bad, a common way to stop the bleeding is to get stitches or cauterize the wound. Cauterization is the process of burning the wound in order to seal it up. Think of lightsabers in Star Wars. No one bleeds when they’re cut because the “blade” of the lightsaber cauterizes the wound as it cuts. Your characters might have to stitch someone or cauterize someone in an emergency situation.

Gunshot wounds: Getting shot is a serious/life threatening situation, so your characters would need immediate medical attention. In an emergency situation, the bullet might have to be dug out and the wound cauterized if the bleeding is severe. If the bullet goes in and out, you might just have to worry about infection and covering the wound. A gunshot wound will be painful and will take a while to heal. If someone is shot in the leg, they will have trouble walking. The limbs will need time to heal.

Poisoning: This is a wide topic that could include food poisoning to being poisoned by another character, but they will probably feel very sick. Symptoms will include vomiting, dehydration, diarrhea, etc. Your character might get severe stomach aches and will not be able to function.Being poisoned can be deadly and can happen quickly. A medicine called Ipecac will induce vomiting in order to get the poisons out of someone’s symptoms, but will not work for EVERYTHING. Further treatment might be necessary.

Stomach wound: A person with a stomach wound will not last very long without addressing it. If it is deep enough, it will kill off your character unless the bleeding and infection can be stopped. Infection is usually what kills people with stomach wounds or gunshot wounds.

This is a list to be used for WRITING purposes only. Obviously you should call a doctor or get emergency treatment if something is serious. I also wrote this list assuming that your characters don’t have access to medical professionals, so keep that in mind. Hope this helps!

First part of a Twitter thread by @SamAsIAm:
"A friend who is a municipal arborist just called to tell me about a guy who cut down 32 big mature trees on his neighbor's NJ property to get a better view of NYC. He hired a guy who hired another guy. Cut them down and left the debris there. The fine per tree is $1000 so the 1/

2/ guy propably thought he was going to just pay a $32k fine. But the arborist wrote violations to all 3 parties, 96 in all (by hand, took him 12 hours) and there's a provision requiring the replanting of like trees "of the same size." And it's on an inaccessible by road"
Continuation of Twitter thread by @SamAsIAm:
"3/ mountainside. He put the affronted landowner in touch with the only guy who would take on such a job. Thry have to build a road, remove the debris, plant big trees and water them for two years. He quoted $1.5 million. And additional fines total $400k. I hope whoever this ass

4/4 is he can't pay and they lien and sell his property, the value of which he probably figured would be increased so much a $32k fine was worth it, to cover the cost. We are living in the Jaime Dimon ethos. "So fine us, we can afford it.

4/5 The PS to this is I was just given a zoom link to the 1st court hearing tomorrow. I'm not sure if it's just for trail participants or spectators can use it, but if they let me observe I'll add more. It doesn't appear to have been picked up by any news source yet."
Quote Tweet by @ParSpec:
"Apparently NOBODY ELSE IN THE QUOTE TWEETS RESPECTS TRADITION ENOUGH TO POST THE TREE LAW COMIC"
A 1-page comic by u/reachling:
Panel 1: A saddenned person with short hair looking at a tree stump, their hands are holding the sides of their head. They're saying "Oh no! The rare cherry tree grandma brought with her from the old country! It's been chooped down!!" and then in another speech bubble "And only a week after the new neighbor complained about it blocking his view too!"

Panel 2: The young person turns around with a befuddled look on their face. A speech bubble from the bushes says "Tree law?"

Panel 3: A bald bearded lawyer with a suit and briefcase looks from behind a picket fence and says "Tree law?"

Panel 4: Another lawyer with shades pops their head from inside the bushes and says "Tree law?!"

Panel 5: Another lawyer crawls from under the stump with a briefcase and says "Tree law!!"

Panel 6: The four lawyers carry the young person above them. The person is looking confused. Two of the lawyers are holding pitchforks and torches. Around them are raining dollar bills. The lawyers are chanting "Tree! Law! Tree! Law!"

i like how literally everyone in the gaang is so good at coming up with convincing alter egos except for zuko and sokka.

katara and toph can come up with identities that are completely fitting for the situation, while aang just acts so outrageously that no one even suspects that he’s going undercover. (”there’s no way that this kuzon kid has anything to hide. it’s like he’s begging to be noticed.”)

zuko and sokka on the other hand…are complete ass at it. they discover this when the gaang tell zuko about the dumb shit they got themselves into in the fire nation.

zuko: wang fire? you named yourself wang fire? that’s like if i infiltrated the southern water tribe under the name mr. ice water.

sokka: oh yeah? if you’re so good at going undercover, then what was your alias in the earth kingdom?

zuko: lee

sokka: go on…

zuko: just…lee…

sokka: oh. so you decided to create an earth kingdom identity using literally the most common name in the fire nation. how clever. you should have just named yourself ZUKO WITH A C AND IT WOULD HAVE HAD THE SAME EFFECT

zuko: I WAS PANICKING OKAY?

aang, katara, and toph see sokka and zuko being potential liabilities if they ever need to go undercover again. they make it a game to randomly give sokka and zuko scenarios to which they have to create an alter ego on the spot. sometimes sokka and zuko will just be chilling at the western air temple, cloud watching or some dumb shit like that, and suddenly it’ll be like…

aang: QUICK YOU WERE SPOTTED TRYING TO GAIN ACCESS TO AN EXCLUSIVE COUNCIL MEETING AT THE NORTHERN WATER TRIBE. WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT BUSINESS DO YOU HAVE THERE?

sokka: uh uH…oh oh! i know! i’m the ghost of the 33rd chief of the northern water tribe, chief tunriq, here to preserve the spiritual sanctity of my—

aang: okay i’m gonna stop you right there. zuko, your turn.

zuko: can’t i just fight them and get it over with?

aang: no!

sokka and zuko get pretty decent at it when they have to infiltrate the fire nation again, and they all continue playing this game long after the war is over. even though they don’t need to go into hiding anymore, it’s still a useful skill to have whenever they wanna disguise themselves as regular people to hang out. in a few month’s time, sokka and zuko are able to whip up pretty elaborate back stories on the spot, and the gaang feels like they’re finally ready to put their skills to use in public. but oh god. does it backfire.

random civilian: hey! you look a lot like the avatar’s friend. sokka from the southern water tribe.

sokka: i get that all the time. my name’s lee. i run a tea shop with my uncle in the earth kingdom.

random civilian: you mean like firelord zuko’s alter ego…? now that i think about it your friend looks a lot like him. who are you?

zuko: i am but a humble servant to firelord zuko, here to escort these earth kingdom civilians around the fire nation as part of the firelord’s campaign to make our country more hospitable to the other nations.

aang, katara, and toph: *whispers* oh my god he did it

zuko: my name is…wang fire

aang, katara, and toph: *commence internal sobbing*

from that point on, aang, katara, and toph decide that they should do the talking for them.
