Babyrousa – Deer-pigs

Babyrousa – Deer-pigs

Babyrousa – deer-pigs

The last one of this big family, the weirdo of the weirdos and one of the most valuable for me, the Babirusa. Since I was a kid I was amazed by this strange animal that tusk can grow so curve that can break its skin and sometimes the skull.

There are many subspecies still to confirm. So far, three are accepted.

Moluccan Babirusa: This species is poorly known because many of the studies done to this species, where actually done to another subspecies, the North Sulawesi Babirusa.

Togian babirusa: As usual the main threat of this species is the destruction of this habitat. It is also tracked if the animal eats the crops of the villagers. However, the animal is not eaten by the people because the population is mostly muslim therefore, refuse to eat pork.

North Sulawesi Babirusa: In 2006, a male North Sulawesi Babirusa and a female domestic pig were accidentally allowed to interbreed in the Copenhagen Zoo. The offspring were 5 hybrid piglets with teeth most resembling the North Sulawesi Babirusa, while their color was highly variable.

I’ve been having trouble with Tumblr. My post simply don’t appear in the search no matter how strange are my tags. Tumbler didn’t give me any solution so I decided to move to Instagram. I already open an account so if you want to follow me, just click on the link:  Species of the World I will keep posting here until I updated my instagram account. Thanks for the support.

Next, some nice posters of all the boar family and the peccary family.

Love This One! More From The Felidae Family. The Turn Now Is For The Biggest In America. Jaguar At First

Love this one! More from the Felidae family. The turn now is for the biggest in America. Jaguar At first glance, Jaguars and Leopards are not so easy to differentiate. They are like two brothers. One's appearance, the leopard, looks more graceful and stylized. While the Jaguar has a more bulky body and its legs are shorter. One is agile while the other one is made to wrestle. However, the biggest difference is that the leopard lives in Africa, Asia, and Oceania, while the Jaguar is found in America. So if you are in Kenya, be 100% sure you are seeing a leopard. _________________________________________ Photo Reference Credits: Gary Morris __________________________________________ Thank you guys for your support. Would love to do more than one but the illustrating part takes a lot of time X(.

I'm Proud Of This Artwork. Despite The Low Quality Of My Reference Picture, I Was Able To Interpret Shapes

I'm proud of this artwork. Despite the low quality of my reference picture, I was able to interpret shapes and details. The rarity of photographs of this majestic animal declared extinct in the mid-90s, I think makes this illustration all the more significant in preserving its memory. Javan Tiger This tiger was considered a plague. I think that says all. The characterization of the Javan Tiger as a plague is a sobering reminder of the destructive consequences of human activity on wildlife. I really wish we have changed so we don't see cases like this one in the future. _____________________________________________ Credits: Javan Tiger _____________________________________________ Thank you for your support. The Last Member Of The Giraffe Family And To My Eyes The Most Beautiful! I Must Say That When I Saw It

The last member of the Giraffe family and to my eyes the most beautiful! I must say that when I saw it at the zoo the first time, it didn't strike me as much as now when I draw it. Is clearly the head of a giraffe in the body of a prehistoric animal adorned with the stripes of a zebra running down its legs. If you think of it, is like coming from a fantasy book. Okapi It is a living fossil and contrary to its closest relative, the giraffe, which is mostly found in the savannas, the okapis live in the dense forests of the Congo. It is very elusive and timid making it a really hard specimen to study in the wild. Therefore little is known about it. The poster of the Giraffidae family is coming soon! ___________________________________ Photo Credits: Magda Ehlers ___________________________________

Sumatran Elephant Elephas Maximus Maximus Family: Elephantidae Genus: Elephas Conservation Status: Critically Endangered

Sumatran Elephant Elephas maximus maximus Family: Elephantidae Genus: Elephas Conservation Status: Critically Endangered

Working on this one was a real challenge. The lighting of the photo was difficult to figure out, and the shapes on the head were at an angle that I wasn't familiar with. Anyway, the outcome got me satisfied. I had no idea about this subspecies until I got to study elephants. Very interesting subspecies. Join the club to know more about this and more animals. Also, you can get access to the book in the making and the Esticker album. Click here ____________________________________________ Thank you guys for your support. Kerguelen Islands Commerson’s Dolphin

Kerguelen Islands Commerson’s Dolphin

This subspecies was discovered in the 1950s. They own its name because they live close to the Kerguelen Islands south of the Indian Ocean. Actually, I just found the scientific name so I am not sure if that is the name of the animal. From what I read, they live close to the coast and prefer shallow waters. There are substantial physical differences between the two. This subspecies is larger but also its color patterns are different. The dark areas aren’t black but gray and the white area is more like light gray. Also, the demarcation between areas is more diffuse. In 2004 a vagrant individual (which is the name for an animal that is found out of its normal range) was found on the coasts of South Africa but no other sight has been notified.

An Illustrated Poster With All The Rhinos Of The World. Is The Most Complete Compilation Because Includes

An illustrated poster with all the rhinos of the world. Is the most complete compilation because includes all the subspecies, even the ones that are extinct.

It took time to search, compile and corroborate information. Some of the extinct subspecies' quality photographs weren't good and some others didn't even have, so I had to base them on written descriptions.

Moreover, illustrating a rhino is not easy. Is a meticulous job. A rhino has a lot of textures that take time to do if you want to make it believable (an average of 10 hours per rhino). it drained me and I found myself exhausted at the end. But worthed it. I love animals, I love rhinos and I love to study them and share what I learned.

Whales Are Divided Into Three Families. This Is The Second And Biggest: The Balaenopteridae, Which Contains

Whales are divided into three families. This is the second and biggest: the Balaenopteridae, which contains the biggest animal that ever inhabits the earth. However, we will start with its smallest member but also the fastest: the Mink Whale. This is the most common whale and is probably due to its not being commonly hunted by humans. Its size is too small (about 10m) and does not have enough oil yield, so hunting it is not worth it. Nonetheless, the hunting of this whale has increased.

Its name is confusing because it was first confused and classified wrongly. Its name is derived from the Norwegians who usually refer to any type of small whale as Minkie or Minkies' hval.

The Dwarf Mink Whale was described as a new subspecies not long ago and it is not sure yet if is one. Still has not scientific name. Mink Whale in captivity.

Mink whale has been tried to keep in captivity in Mito Aquarium, in Japan a few times. Most of the specimens died in few weeks while in 1956, the last one was able to scape a net aquarium after 37 days spinning the pool in the same direction.

____ I'm really ignorant of whales and most of this information is new to me. It is very hard to understand the information and translated it into something that I am able to explain. I hope is understood. ____ Thanks for your support. Likes, reblogging, or follows are very much appreciated.
