Hey, maybe wanna cry even more thanks to this scene?

While reading Visions of V I suddenly had a thought when reaching these panels: Why did Vergil actually cut Dante's palm like that?

I mean, if the boys have proven anything, it's that they both have one hell of a pain tolerance. They get sliced and diced and stabbed on the regular after all, and while the injury may hinder them for a second or two (or three when exhausted), they've never really seemed to care too much about pain. Hell, Dante got utterly shish-kababed in the opening of dmc3 alone, and he seemed pretty unbothered by it all.

So why the cut if it's probably not going to deter Dante too much... Not truly at least...

But then I thought about the exact location of the cut and what it meant as an actual injury.

You see where Vergil sliced Dante's hand? That's anatomically where the main ligaments to flex ones fingers are located. Except of course the flexor of the thumb.

Here's a quick pic to better illustrate.

You see what I mean? Vergil cut through the flexor tendons in the palm pretty nicely since it looks like he went deep enough to sever them.

Which means that only the extensors were left as working ligaments. Which means Dante wouldn't have been able to curl his fingers in any way, only extend them as shown above (or in this set of gifs)...

Meaning, he wouldn't have been able to grab onto anything. At all. Not even his falling brother!

Vergil really didn't want to leave anything up to chance, did he?

He definitely noticed that in the moment Dante could have stopped his fall, since Dante was close enough to grab Vergil's foot or coat or maybe even more. So that's why he went and made even the thought of it an utter impossibility in one swift slice.

And sure, with the twins' healing it probably only took a split second for the ligaments to mend (maybe a bit longer even with their regeneration cause that's one nasty injury), but that split second was enough.

So not only did Vergil dissuade Dante from reaching for him or following him into the underworld through pain, drawing one last line into the sand his brother wasn't allowed to cross. But he also literally made it impossible for Dante to grab onto him with the hand he had extended.

All so that he could surely fall to his doom...

i feel like Dante would do such a thing. A thing like when he bored uuum yn. He would go to his demonass inventory and try and mimic those orb faces for the funsies n shi. like thats lilrly him and you cant argue with that with me bc ill like bite yn.

if you flip the image, he might resemble Mona Lisa. I'm not 100% happy with how he turned out, but he's still my child and i shall love him as one ( haha bc my name is Eva and no, i don't condone incest)

TRISH APPRECIATION TIME

Let's talk about her design first: dressed entirely in black with leather accents, a corset and sunglasses at night. Smooth blonde hair, cleavage and hourglass figure. No doubt, you are supposed to be alured by here since the first moment.

Trish is a more conventionally attractive version of Eva. Where Eva has a slightly hooked nose, Trish's straight and long. While Dante's mother hid her body and hair behing many layers of fabric and a veil (also evoking the imagery of a catholic saint), her clone's outfit could be seen in a nightclub.

Despite being created to lure the main character to Mallet Island by looking like his deceased family, her personality shines and acts in an almost opposite way to Eva.

Tapping into her story, the player sees she sacrifices herself to do the right thing. Despite living under Mundus' thumb her entire existence, her connection to Dante and experience of the human world is combined with her courage and resilience. Despite bring met with destruction, she endures.

In Devil May Cry 5, she accompanies V while he goes through his emotional turmoil (her knowing he is a part of Vergil is up for debate) and speaks the truth he needs to hear.

'I'm not your mommy, V." I think this sentence is great BECAUSE it crushes Vergils' expectations regarding Trish. She will never be his mom. She is her own person and deserves to be treated as such.

While Dante has the Devil May Cry shop, Trish has traveled to many places to work. I see this as curiosity (while also fighting demons) to experience what humanity has created.

She was created as torture. With a purpose that didn't involve her at all. And even so, she rose against her creator, found connections and a reason to live. There is nothing more beautiful than that.

DEVIL MAY CRY CHARACTER DESIGN COMMENTARY: DANTE 1

This is my opinion on Dante's design from the first Devil May Cry game. I will probably do other characters as well.

The Devil May Cry franchise has it's roots in Resident Evil. Dante has many similarities with Leon, one of the main characters, specially in Resident Evil 4.

Since it is the first game of the franchise, it's visual identity was not consolidated yet. A mix of genres is what makes the first Devil May Cry so unique.

With that being said, I like his design. It is a product of early 2000's dark and "vengeful" aesthetic. Despite living in a dark world, his crimson coat, white hair and piercing eyes, Dante makes quite a bold figure.

There are different kinds of fabric, and many details such as belts and buttons across his attire.

There was no way of knowing where the franchise would go in the future, or if there would even be future games. The entire creative team did what they could with the resources they had, and delivered an iconic experience.

Combining readability amidst the fights, a design that fits his story and good graphics for its time, DMC 1 Dante conquers an 9/10 in my design ranking!
