When the younger of the two of them makes his comment, Gladiolus grins a little and shrugs. The truth was he didn’t understand what was running through the younger two’s minds. They were acting goofy, but? The “SHIELD” recognized it as them probably attempting to do their best to not overwhelm Ignis on his birthday/day off.
“I assume they know that already? But, who knows. Noct might be avoiding you so that he doesn’t accidentally start asking you for things – it’s sort’ve second nature for the king-to-be.” Gladio states, making his way over to his friend and companion. Unloading the mini-hoard next to his blond companion.
The golden-eyed man had picked out a few things for Ignis – various little necessity gifts. Things that would make his life easier, such as a thermos for coffee, a better sewing kit, a new travel set of appliances. The boys? Had gone a little more in the goofy direction. Noct had bought Ignis many cans of E B O N Y, as well as a cook book that claims on the cover to know 50 recipes in which you could use Ebony as an ingredient. Whereas Prompto had picked up a stuffed animal – large, round, and plump. Supposedly it was a bird? And the shutter-bug had said he’d picked it because it “looked like Ignis” but? Honestly, Gladio couldn’t see the resemblance. Nor could he say it looked anything like a bird. But? The boys were goofy.
“It’s not a problem, you know that. You needed a break. Hell, you deserved one. Though, on that note… I ordered a cake for you. It’s gonna be here in a while. But? I figured I’d warn you. So you don’t ruin your appetite.” Oh, the times he’d heard that last phrase himself – it was funny to get to use it himself this time. Though, it was somewhat embarrassing for the Shield to admit he had to order it. Ignis was the only real competent chef amongst them. And it wasn’t like he could serve CUP-of-NOODLES and MUG-CAKES for his companions’ birthday.
Bringing an engaged prince to his engagement can be more difficult then expected - especially when Crown City money doesn’t work outside of their walls, and without a single “gil” on any of them. However, a bit of hard labor helps out. And? He’s always up for camping as a cheaper alternative to staying in hotels and the likes on the way.
This is the portion of the trip at the very beginning. So far, it’s just an adventure. Nothing too big to worry about.
After the destruction of the Crown City, things change quite a bit. Noctis, the prince he’s in charge of guarding, has been declared “dead.” And though that can buy them some time to get him elsewhere, that status will only cover them for so long - so it’s time to cover some ground while they have the coverage. Unfortunately, this trip has gone bad to worse... and it has no looks of getting any better. This won’t stop Gladio from doing his best to guard the prince or the rest of the group, however.
Including hunting down Gilgamesh to try to up his game. If he’s going to guard the chosen king, he needs to be sure he’s a Shield ready for that duty.
After Noctis’ return from the Crystal/During the time he was missing. Doing his best to both train and to help settle places for refugee’s. He’s a hunter now, most of the time. But once his king returns, he quickly reunites with the others to guard him once again.
