*Sees Diomedes*
Glaucus: You know what, I'm good.
maomao is my favorite "not like other girls" style protagonist bc for one shes a girls girl through and through. to the bone. and two she's just a weird little freak. absolute lunatic. they have the whole "omg she's actually beautiful and everyone falls for her when she's all made up" trope but the punchline is that she does not fucking want to look like that. she actively puts dirt on her face every day bc she does not want to be perceived as attractive (mostly out of fear of being used for sex work though at the same time she has the utmost respect for women who do sex work like she grew up in a brothel those are her sisters). she's Sherlock level smart and solves every mystery so fast but goes "well thats none of my business. anyway back to testing poisons on myself" she has the 2nd most powerful guy in the nation head over heels in love with her and is like "man this guy is weird around me what's his deal. I guess he's fine though because he gives me rare medicines and has no dick" fucking ICON i love her. also she once slapped someone so hard they fell on the floor. 10/10

the fact, that so many Christians and Christianity-influenced fans of Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica see Homura as a villain honestly reveals a lot about what is wrong with the faith, media literacy and the general attitude towards mental illness.
On one hand you have aliens seemingly devoid of any moral system at all, acting purely out of self-interest while pretending to work towards some grand utilitarian goal the results of which will never be experienced by the people affected by the system they created. The Incubators literally rip souls out of children and turn them into a physical object, so that it can store more energy than it took to create it and explode, releasing all of it so that the aliens can then collect the surplus they're after. The psychological effects of that are shown to be equivalent to a perpetual psychotic breakdown shattering the personhood of the victim, dooming them to years of torment that cannot be escaped by any means other than being killed by a magical girl.
On the other hand you have a desperate struggle to protect a sweet lesbian bean girl too devoid of self-worth not to sacrificially throw herself away at the first occasion, time after time after time until it turns out that even a complete rewrite of the universe won't achieve anything permanent unless the Incubators are completely and utterly defeated for good. You have a drastic measure meant to prevent a reactionary takedown of Madoka's universe, taken right after experiencing the aforementioned breakdown.
And then you have imagery of a God and a Devil superimposed on top, contrasting the traits of the characters in a way that should have made it clear the symbolism isn't used in a standard Christian way at all.
But it doesn't matter, because there's so much more discourse on Homura being supposedly in the wrong and evil, accusing her of psychopathy while the actual low empathy villains are doing horrible things for reasons completely unrelated to lack of empathy anyway.
There's a lot of examples of bias, poor media literacy and broken discourse, but this one really bothers us a lot on a personal level and we don't even have a single fictive from the show
I hope that the upcoming movie manages to handle the mismatch between the actual politics of the franchise and its image, but honestly it's gonna be one hell of a job in this climate

i feel like i've attached myself to the two Stan twins in two very... different ways
like with ford-- he's in my mind 24/7. he's rotating in there like a low-poly blender animation in a microwave. i have. SOOO many thoughts about him. he was bullied his entire life hes a jerk his only friend was stan he pushed everyone close to him away hes arrogant he got humbled so badly he cant trust anyone he trusted all the wrong people he projects his issues on dipper + mabel he cares about his family he's the best he's the worst he's just trying. thoughts just bouncing off the walls like a dvd logo. most of my daydreams are just putting him in Various Situations. i love him but i NEED to see him suffer through the five stages of grief all at once while heavily bleeding. it's for my own enrichment. he's great but for the sake of my entertainment i need to him him suffer.
stanley, on the other hand, is the only one allowed in my heart. he's so-- AUGH!!! seeing him makes me physically ill. he's the most tragic character he constantly seeks validation he constantly puts up a facade because it's either that or be left behind he's been told his entire life that he's useless, that he's a cheap copy of his brother and that he'll never amount to anything in life but he just has to keep on trying every day no matter how hard it is and it doesn't matter if he sacrifices all of himself because at the end of the day if he helps his family then he'll finally, finally be good for something. i hate it because i can't consume most stanley-focused media because the MOMENT i click open the fic or look at the art it's like being sucker-punched in The Feels. i'm bawling my eyes out at 3am because someone brought up the fact that only his mom and very few other people came to his 'funeral'. it's awful it's horrible it's the most despicable thing in existence but i love him
tl:dr, i need to see ford an inch from death, bloodied and bruised and coughing up blood and suffering and guilt-ridden and experiencing the Worst Situations Ever (affectionate) but i also need stanley to be bundled up in the coziest blanket ever with a cup of hot chocolate and his favourite stuffed animal and give him a hug and love and comfort for once in his life (derogatory)
Rewatching the 1st hunger games film for the first time in a years r my thoughts chronologically:
- I forgot how amazing Jennifer Lawrence is as Katniss!
- Effie is even more oblivion to the tone of the hunger games than I remembered
- I forgot how iconic the volunteer scene is.
- Effie genuinely believes it's worth it for the kids to die if they get to experience a little Capitol opulence
- tHAt iS MAhOgaNy!!
- They captured the Capitol so well!
- I love Cinna, they captured him perfectly.
- Caeser Flickerman's commentary is a fabulous addition.
- Rue's introduction scene is perfect.
- when Katniss says "hey" in training centre, peeta's eyes light up
- the scene where haymitch is watching Capitol children pretend to be part of the Hunger games captures how desensitized they are really well.
- Seneca Crance doesn't fully understand the politics of why the games exist the way they do.
- Caeser Flickerman's song is such a banger!!!
- Peeta "She came here with me" Mellark
- Katniss looking at the bow at the cornucopia, Peeta: Katniss no!, Katniss: Katniss yes!!
- Haymitch seeing Katniss hurt so having to charm Capitol sponsors even tho he hates doing it. °○°
- Rue 💖❤💖
- Rue 😭😭😭😭
- I love that while Katniss is the Mockingjay, it's Rue's death & the unity between them that sparks the riot in District 11.
- Thresh saving Katniss for Rue 🥰
- Haymitch warning Katniss the Capitol isnt happy with how they won means so much more when u know cos of the way he won his family was killed.
- aww Peeta genuinely believes Katniss in the Caeser flickerman interview. Poor boy
- President Snow is piiisssed
- this credits song slaps
