Omura's Whale Little Is Known About This Whale Because Was Until 2003 That It Was Thought To Be A Smaller

Although not related, however similar and for many years thought to belong to the same family, The Pygmy Right Whale is the only extant member of the Cetotheriidae family. Despite its size, The biggest difference from the Balaenidae family is that the Pygmy whale has a dorsal fin and its mouth is not as big in proportion to its body as the other Right Whales. Babyrousa – deer-pigs

The last one of this big family, the weirdo of the weirdos and one of the most valuable for me, the Babirusa. Since I was a kid I was amazed by this strange animal that tusk can grow so curve that can break its skin and sometimes the skull. 

There are many subspecies still to confirm. So far, three are accepted.

Moluccan Babirusa: This species is poorly known because many of the studies done to this species, where actually done to another subspecies, the North Sulawesi Babirusa.

Togian babirusa: As usual the main threat of this species is the destruction of this habitat. It is also tracked if the animal eats the crops of the villagers. However, the animal is not eaten by the people because the population is mostly muslim therefore, refuse to eat pork.

North Sulawesi Babirusa: In 2006, a male North Sulawesi Babirusa and a female domestic pig were accidentally allowed to interbreed in the Copenhagen Zoo. The offspring were 5 hybrid piglets with teeth most resembling the North Sulawesi Babirusa, while their color was highly variable.

Lesser Mouse Deer

Not much is known about this species. It seems to be an apparent lack of interest to study this family which to me is hard to explain if we count that are the smallest hoofed animals in the world and hasn’t changed much in millions of years. This shows a form of adaptability that is remarkable and that I believe deserves to be studied.

Because very little is known about this animal in general, is hard to assess a truthful census. It’s known to be widely spread in Southeast Asia and is often part of the menu of villagers or even taken as a pet. (Please don’t have one. Let’s leave wild things wild)

Northern Sumatran Rhinoceros.

When I approach to illustrate an animal I usually feel that I'm not in the right direction. Just after about an hour, I begin to see its shape. I always start with the head because is the hardest to resolve and is the one that takes me the longest to do.

The Northern Rhinoceros was the most widespread of all Sumatran rhinos. It was once found in the Indochinese peninsula, eastern India, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Mongolia, and China. It has been declared extinct multiple times and there is little hope that there is a small population surviving in Burna and the Malaysian peninsula but the chances are very low.

Unlike its tropical relatives, it thrives in chilly high-altitude environments within the Andes mountain range and is known for its thick, woolly coat. Unfortunately, decades of internal conflict in Colombia have both helped and hindered this species. While the instability has prevented hunting and habitat destruction in some regions, it has also made it difficult for researchers to study their habits and breeding patterns.

Despite the advantages and challenges presented by the conflict, the Mountain Tapir remains endangered. The species faces threats from hunting, habitat fragmentation, and the introduction of cattle. The current population of around 2,500 individuals may decline by 20% over the next 20 years, which is concerning given the species' already precarious situation. My artwork featuring all equine species and subspecies is now available in my store. It's been about a year since I began working on horses, so it's satisfying to see it completed. Although they are a well-known and beloved family, there are still some discrepancies among biologists. Questions persist, such as whether the extinct Tarpan should be classified as a species or not, and even the classification of domestic and feral horses. Moreover, it's concerning that four subspecies of this family are already extinct.
